History
Welcome to Wardhouse &
Milwaukee’s Third Ward
333-339 N. Broadway is a historic landmark in Milwaukee’s Third Ward, a neighborhood shaped by industry, resilience, culture, and transformation. From the Great Third Ward Fire to the rise of Commission Row, the building reflects the area’s rich commercial past while embracing modern urban living.
Commission Row &
333-339 N. Broadway
Immigrant families built a thriving produce trade in the Ward. The Jennaro family purchased 333-339 N. Broadway in the early 1940s, operating a wholesale produce business for multiple generations. In 2005, they relocated their fifth-generation company, ending the era of merchant operations on Commission Row.
The Great Third Ward Fire
On October 28, 1892, a fire swept through the Third Ward, destroying hundreds of buildings and reshaping the neighborhood. The fire leveled 16-20 blocks of homes and factories, leaving over 2,000 residents homeless. This disaster transformed the area from a residential district into a commercial and warehouse hub, leading to the creation of “Commission Row” on N. Broadway in 1894.
Restoration & Modern Use
Today, 333-339 N. Broadway has been restored and transformed into luxury apartments, preserving its historic character while blending modern urban living with the building’s commercial heritage.
